Rahane ready to tame Lions

Rajasthan Royals opener Ajinkya Rahane feels they are heading in the right direction as they prepare for Wednesday’s tough Champions League T20 clash with Highveld Lions (Royals 1/2, Lions 13/8 Match Prices).

The Royals currently sit at the top of the Group A standings, with four points from their opening victory over Mumbai on Saturday.

That game remains the only competed fixture in the group as the other two scheduled contests have fallen foul of the weather, with Mumbai, Lions, Otago Volts and Perth Scorchers all on two points.

The players are now well rested after their opening victory and have enjoyed a huge slice of luck with the weather decimating the other group games.

But Rahane in unconcerned about what has happened elsewhere and prefers to concentrate on upcoming events against the South African side.

“We have won the first game and momentum is with us now,” he said. “But anything can happen in T20s, so we don’t want to think about other teams getting only two points.

“We just want to continue with our strategy and what we did against Mumbai.”

Rajasthan are second favourites behind Chennai Super Kings to win the overall competition, with the likes of Rahul Dravid, Shane Watson and James Faulkner in the side (Royals 100/30, Super Kings 7/4 Outright Winner).

But Rahane insists he and his team-mates will be taking nothing for granted in Jaipur against a side containing a quality attack.

“They have some good, experienced bowlers,” he added. “Sohail Tanvir is there, and they have Tsotsobe, Imran Tahir, Phangiso – they are a good team.”
