Proteas star eyes series win

South Africa (1/6 – Series Betting) will look to win their first home series since 2008 and their first against a top-five cricket nation since 2007 when they begin a three-match Test series against Sri Lanka (12/1, draw 6/1) this week.

The Proteas have drawn against India, England and Australia in their last three big summer series to slip to third in the ICC Test rankings but batsman AB de Villiers remains confident of success against a much-changed Sri Lanka side (7/4 – South Afrca 3-0 – Correct Score).

“I watched them on the telly the other day and I hardly recognised half the team,” de Villiers admitted.

“But the most important thing for us is to respect them and play them like they are the number one team in the world at the moment.”

Sri Lanka lost 1-0 to Pakistan last month, drawing the first and third Tests, but suffering a nine-wicket defeat in the second match at Dubai Sports Club.

South Africa went 1-0 up over Australia recently after bowling the tourists out for just 47 in their second innings at Newlands.

But although they set Michael Clarke’s side a tough target of 310 in the second Test in Johannesburg, the Australians somehow won by two wickets.
