Patel comes to the party

9029125 nottinghamshire lancashire 300x211 Patel comes to the partySamit Patel will hope to repeat Tuesday’s heroics against Lancashire when Notts take on Warwickshire in the Friends Provident Trophy on Wednesday evening (Notts 4/6 to beat Warwicks).

The all-rounder took three wickets in five balls to rip the heart out of the Lancashire middle order as the Old Trafford outfit were dismissed for just 131 in 18.5 overs at Trent Bridge and Notts secured a 26-run victory.

Skipper David Hussey top-scored for Notts with 44, while Alex Hales made 35, but England’s James Anderson was treated with disdain and hit for 39 runs from his four overs for Lancs.

Anderson’s England colleague Stuart Broad enjoyed a better night, talking 2-22, while Aussie paceman Dirk Nannes also picked up two wickets.

The victory keeps Notts’ 100 percent record intact and they sit at the top of the North Group with four wins from four matches played (Notts 4/1 to win FP Trophy).

Hussey now takes his troops to Edgbaston for a mouth-watering clash with Warwickshire (14/1 to win FP Trophy), who sit third in the table with two wins, one defeat and one no-result from their four games to date.

The Midlanders were looking good to force a victory against Lancashire on Sunday, after amassing 196-9 in their 20 overs, but rain prevented any chance of a result and their last victory came against Derbyshire seven days go.

England Test batsman Jonathan Trott was amongst the runs last time out and has signalled his desire for an international recall in the shortest version of the game.

The 29-year-old will hope to use the remaining matches in the competition to give the selectors a nudge but, with Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb forming a superb opening partnership for England, it may well be that Trott has to concentrate his efforts on the five-day game.
