Ganguly backs India for World Cup glory

Bet on cricketFormer captain Sourav Ganguly is confident that India can defend their World Cup title next year and feels they have got their preparation spot on (India 5/1 Outright Winner).

The Asian giants claimed their second 50-over World Cup crown on home soil in 2011, with victory over Sri Lanka in the final.

They went into the tournament as the fancied team and, well led by MS Dhoni, did the business in front of their adoring fans.

Things will be different this time around, as the tournament is being played in Australia and New Zealand and they have lost a number of the stars who helped them over the line three years ago.

But Ganguly is unconcerned about the venue and type of pitches that the matches will be played on and feels they are good enough to adapt to the conditions Down Under.

“India have got a good chance of defending the World Cup,” he said. “They are a very good ODI side wherever they play. Whether it is Australia or England, they are a top one-day side.”

The sub-continental giants are currently level at 1-1 in their ongoing ODI series with West Indies and will play the men from the Caribbean on Friday in the fourth of five games (India 2/5, Windies 15/8 – Match Prices).

They will also travel to Australia to face the hosts and England in a tri-series in the New Year and Ganguly believes that the schedule can only be good for their chances of glory.

“The players will get accustomed, but I don’t think they will get tired,” he added. “They should not be thinking about this at all whether they are getting tired or not.”
