Wells still believes

Headingley Carnegie Cricket GroundLeicestershire all-rounder Tom Wells remains upbeat about his side’s chances of qualifying for the Natwest T20 Blast play-offs as they prepare to face Yorkshire on Tuesday (Yorkshire 2/5, Leicestershire 15/8 Match Prices).

The Foxes have not enjoyed the best of starts to the domestic 20-over competition and currently sit in eighth place in the standings with just four points from seven games played.

They have won only two matches to date in the shortest version of the sport but did take care of Durham last time out at the Riverside, as Wells hit an unbeaten 31 to guide his side home (Wells 11/2 Top Foxes Batsman).

The Midlanders’ only other victory came against Derbyshire back in May and they are currently five points outside the play-off zone.

But Josh Cobb’s men do have a couple of games in hand on the sides that currently occupy the top three spots and Wells is adamant that, with the wind in their sails, they can still make a run for the top four.

“We’ve got a couple of wins under our belt and qualification is still at the front of our minds,” he said. “That win can give us some momentum now, and if we can win the majority of our games, we can get through.”

Standing in their way at Headingley will be a Yorkshire side four points and three places better off in the table.

The Vikings lost their last T20 match but are still in with a chance of making the post-season and Wells is looking forward to the challenge in Leeds.

“Yorkshire have some good players but we have played good Lancashire and Nottinghamshire sides and gave it a really good go,” he added.
