Bears ready to shock Surrey

Warwickshire BearsRikki Clarke insists he is unconcerned about his Birmingham Bears’ side being the least fancied of the four semi-finalists to win the Natwest T20 Blast on Saturday (Birmingham 7/2 Outright Winners).

The Bears, otherwise known as Warwickshire, are set to play Surrey in the day’s first semi-final with the victors then going on to face the winner of the Hampshire – Lancashire clash later on Saturday evening (Birmingham 11/10, Surrey 8/11 Match Prices).

Surrey are 2/1 favourites to win the overall event and are regular visitors to Finals Day, while the weekend appearance of the Midlanders on their home Edgbaston ground will be the first time they have graced the competition’s last day in 11 years.

Having only just sneaked into the quarter-finals, the Bears then took care of highly-rated Essex away from home to progress to the last four and, while admitting that his men are not tipped to pull up any trees at the weekend, the former Surrey ace is confident they will give the opposition a run for their money.

“Realistically, we are underdogs due to the simple fact that we have not been to a finals day for 11 years,” he said. “Surrey and Hampshire have been to the Finals Day quite a lot and Lancashire have been there whereas we haven’t been there since 2003.

“So we are definitely underdogs. But we were at Chelmsford.”

Hampshire are the 4/5 favourites to beat Lancashire (evens) in the other semi-final and second favourites at 9/4 to lift the trophy.
