Moores – Nothing won yet

Cook and Moores 20396778Peter Moores insists the series with India is far from over despite England winning successive Tests to take a 2-1 lead heading into the final match at the Oval (England 5/4, draw 6/5, India 5/1 – Match Betting).

Alastair Cook and his men struggled coming into the series and things looked bleak following an opening defeat at Trent Bridge and a draw at Lord’s, but they have hugely turned things around in subsequent matches.

A flat pitch at Southampton allowed them to end a run of 10 Tests without a victory before they beat the Indians in three days at Old Trafford despite losing an afternoon to rain.

England are now the favourites to wrap up the series at the Oval when the final match gets underway on Friday and England have named an unchanged squad, with the hope that Stuart Broad (14/1 – Top England Series Bowler) will recover from a broken nose after being hit in the face while batting.

After so much disappointment over the last 12 months confidence is high within the camp, but Moores insists his team cannot rest on their laurels going into the final match in Surrey.

“We certainly won’t get carried away. We’ve got a huge game at the Oval to try and win a series,” he told BBC Radio 5 live’s Sportsweek. “We will build on that win and hopefully finish the series strongly.

“Over the last two Tests those young players have kept performing, we’ve got to know each other a bit better and the senior players have started to play well. As a unit, we have maintained pressure for long periods and that has made it harder for India to try and get a foothold in the game.”
