Injury problems for Sussex

Cricket - Natwest T20 Blast - South Division - Middlesex Panthers v Sussex Sharks - Lord'sSussex (6/5 – Match Winner) have been dealt a blow ahead of their NatWest T20 Blast match against Kent after captain Ed Joyce was ruled out due to injury.

The former England international, who now plays for Ireland, suffered a minor hamstring tear in the Championship match with Yorkshire at Arundel on Tuesday.

Sussex are hopeful their skipper will recover in time for the Championship match at Durham on Sunday, but he will be replaced by either Harry Finch or Aszhar Zaidi at Canterbury tonight, with Chris Nash filling in as captain.

The absence of Joyce just adds to the growing injury list for the Sharks, with pace bowlers Matt Hobden and James Anyon still on the sidelines for the club, while Mike Yardy is a long-term casualty.

There were doubts over the inclusion of Rory Hamilton-Brown and Matt Machan for the match, but they will play despite the duo carrying knocks.

Hamilton-Brown is struggling with a wrist problem while Machan is due to have a scan on a finger injury suffered during the recent Yorkshire game.

For Kent (4/6 – Match Winner) there are no new injury concerns ahead of the game and they will be hoping to pick up their fourth win of the tournament and improve their position in the table.

Captain Rob Key said: “We are not far away at all. Had we not dropped a couple of catches then we are winning that game against Essex.

“Same against Hampshire, we didn’t bat well enough but had a platform to chase it down, then rectified it against Middlesex.”
