Super Kings out to tame Lions

Stephen FlemingChennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming insists they will take nothing for granted when they face Lahore Lions in Thursday’s Champions League Twenty20 clash (Chennai 1/3, Lahore 9/4 Match Prices).

The Super Kings head into the match sitting in second place in the Group A table with four points from their two games played, but are eight points behind table-topping Kolkata Knight Riders.

They kicked off with defeat to Kolkata but bounced back with a record-breaking batting display in a crushing victory over South African side Dolphins.

India one-day star Suresh Raina smashed 90 from just 43 deliveries while New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum hammered a rapid 49 as the IPL side totalled 242-6 from their 20 overs (Raina 3/1 Top Chennai Batsman).

That equalled the Champions League record and gave them a first win in this year’s competition, and they will be full of confidence going into the clash with Pakistan’s Lions.

But there will be no thoughts of overconfidence among the Indian side’s ranks, with Fleming making it clear that they have done their homework on the opposition.

“We’re familiar with their players and the way they play,” said the 41-year-old tactician. “There will be no complacency.”

And the former New Zealand skipper is now targeting a clean sweep of his side’s remaining games to make sure they join the already-qualified Knight Riders in the semi-finals of the sub-continental event.

“Winning the next two games will get us through,” he added. “So this one is just the next step.”
