Russell wary of Lions threat

Barbados England West Indies CricketAndre Russell insists Kolkata Knight Riders will be taking nothing for granted when they face Lahore Lions in the Champions League T20 on Sunday (KKR 1/2, Lahore 13/8 – Match Prices).

The IPL franchise will head into the game with four points already in the bag after a three-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in their Group A opener.

They currently sit top of the group, with Perth Scorchers also on four points after the Aussie side took care of South Africa’s Dolphins on Saturday.

Lahore have yet to play a match in the group stage but did come through qualifying and won two of their three outings to book their spot in the main event.

Kolkata are among the favourites to win the whole event this year due to their familiarity with the sub-continental conditions.

They can boast the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Narine, Yusuf Pathan and Netherlands international Ryan ten Doeschate in the ranks, with the latter smashing an unbeaten 51 to get them over the line last time out.

Knight Riders certainly look to the stronger of the two teams for Sunday’s contest but Russell, who hit 58 in the win over Chennai, is refusing to get carried away and feels that the nature of the format means any side could pull off a victory (Russell 8/1 – Top KKR Batsman).

“I think in T20 cricket, there is always room for improvement and we can’t take any team lightly,” he said.

“Every team is good on its day. So you can’t really pick favourites and predict that this or that team will pose a challenge or will be easy meat.”
