Indian giants set to clash

MS DhoniKings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings are set to battle it out in the semi-finals of the Champions League T20 on Thursday with more than a place in the final at stake (Kings XI 11/10, Chennai 8/11 Match Prices).

As expected, the two powerhouse teams from the India Premier League emerged from their respective groups, with Kings XI winning all four of their Group B encounters and Chennai winning two, losing one and suffering a wash-out in Group A.

Kolkata Knight Riders were the only side to beat Punjab and they will square off against Hobart Hurricanes in the other semi-final and are strong favourites to progress (KKR 1/2, Hobart 13/8 Match Prices).

Chennai are the 15/8 favourites to win the whole competition and it is easy to see why with a glance at the talent in their ranks.

Led by India skipper MS Dhoni, big-name stars such as Suresh Raina, Ashish Nehru, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo give the side a formidable look.

But the Punjab squad is also packed with T20 specialists, none more so that skipper George Bailey, who has also captained the Australia 20-over side with distinction.

Swashbuckling veteran Virender Sehwag is on board, with big-hitting South African David Miller also in the line up and so the crowd could be in for some fireworks later on Thursday.

It was always likely that the Indian sides would do well in a format that they enjoy and in home conditions and, as expected all three made it to the last four.

They will now be desperate to go all the way to try and scoop the riches on offer and, just as importantly, earn the bragging rights for the next time they square off with their international team-mates.
