Experience key to Knight Riders success

Cricket - Friends Life Twenty20 - South Group - Surrey Lions v Essex Eagles - The Kia OvalRyan ten Doeschate feels he is part of a strong Kolkata Knight Riders squad who could go all the way and win the Champions League Twenty20 title.

The Knight Riders have made an excellent start to this year’s renewal of the sub-continual tournament and sit top of Group A with two wins from two games played.

They are due to face Perth Scorchers on Wednesday with the Aussie outfit also unbeaten having played just one game, and so something will have to give in Hyderabad.

Ten Doeschate has already made his mark in the competition with a well-made unbeaten 51 as KKR downed IPL rivals Chennai in their first group game, while he was out for 12 towards the end of his side’s successful run chase against Lahore last time out.

He is a vital member of the side, along with skipper Gautam Ghambir and big-hitting West Indian Andre Russell.

And the Essex batsman is confident that he and his team-mates have the experience to continue their fine run in the event.

“I think we are a good side. But in T20, every team makes sure that there are no easy matches,” he said. “To our advantage, we have won a big competition in recent times and hope to take the momentum forward.”

Victory over the Scorchers could well be enough for Kolkata to seal their place in the last four of the 20-over extravaganza and ten Doeschate feels it is important that Knight Riders “keep the winning habit going”.
