Broad confident of World Cup participation

Stuart Broad18858132Stuart Broad says he is confident he will have recovered from injury in time to join up with the England (9/1 – 2015 World Cup Outright) squad later this year as they prepare for the World Cup in 2015.

The paceman underwent surgery on September 4 to fix a knee problem that had plagued him for the best part of a year.

Broad featured in the five-match Test series against India in the summer as England clinched an impressive 3-1 victory, with the fast bowler taking 19 wickets.

The current Twenty20 captain has been out of action since then and subsequently missed the dismal one-day internationals as the Three Lions were brushed aside by the reigning 50-over world champions.

England certainly missed Broad in the 3-1 ODI series loss, with the Indian batsmen tearing the bowling attack apart with the likes of Chris Woakes and Harry Gurney struggling in particular.

There are some positive signs though as the World Cup draws ever nearer after the 28-year-old confirmed his recovery is going exactly to plan.

“The knee is coming on well, it’s nearly a month since I’ve had surgery,” he told “I’m back in the gym doing certain bits of weights now and hoping to maybe get on a camp pre-Christmas with the Lions. The 6th of January is my aim to get on that flight (to Australia).”

Broad will miss the up-coming seven-match series against Sri Lanka (7/1 – World Cup Outright) as the fast bowler will still be in the rehabilitation period.

Australia are the favourites to lift the World Cup next year at a price of 11/4, with defending champions India third favourites at 5/1, just behind South Africa at 9/2.
