Bell back as Tremlett faces op

Bell9802672 300x199 Bell back as Tremlett faces opIan Bell has overcome a stomach bug in time for the third Test with Pakistan, while Chris Tremlett has been told he may need surgery on his back injury (England 13/8, Pakistan 7/4, draw 2/1 – Test Match Betting).

Middle-order batsmen Bell missed training on Tuesday due to the virus but has now been declared fully fit for the final Test in Dubai.

However, Bell, who has managed just 36 runs in four innings, is one of a number of batsmen in danger of being dropped after a disappointing series.

Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Strauss and Eoin Morgan have also struggled against the Pakistan spinners and England coach Andy Flower has hinted he isn’t afraid to make changes, with Ravi Bopara waiting in the wings.

Bell (11/2 – Top England Batsman) admits it’s time for the batsmen to stand up and be counted after a disappointing tour.

“We are looking forward to putting in a performance in the last Test,” Bell said.

“The bowlers have been fantastic and now it’s up to the batting unit to give them some support.”

Bell’s praise for the bowlers coincides with the news Tremlett could have to undergo surgery to fix a chronic back problem which has ruled him out of the current Test series.

The 6ft 7in fast bowler missed nearly six months through injury last year and the England team physio Ben Langley has now revealed Tremlett will visit a specialist to see whether or not he needs an operation.

“He will see two specialists to get two opinions. The programme he followed after breaking down last summer has not worked, so he might have to go down the surgery route,” Langley told The Sun.
