Aussies ready for action

Australia coach Darren LehmannHead coach Darren Lehmann has insisted his Australia players are now well rested and ready for a hectic period of cricket, including a tilt at World Cup glory (Australia 3/1 fav Outright Winner).

The Aussies have now regained their status as one of the top teams in world cricket and last winter’s 5-0 humbling of England Down Under proved that they are, once again, a force to be feared.

The Baggy Greens sit second in the Test rankings, just a point behind South Africa, while they are ranked as the number one side in the 50-over game.

After four months without any cricket, Lehmann’s side is set to take on Zimbabwe and South Africa in a triangular one-day tournament, with all matches taking place in the Zimbabwe capital Harare (S Africa 9/2 World Cup Outright).

And, after an extended rest for his charges, the former Aussie batsman knows that he must work hard to ensure that his men hit the ground running against both African nations.

“The challenge is getting us back up to the skill level that we need to compete at international cricket because we’ve had the break and we’ll have to get that very quickly,” he said.

Most of the international sides will be playing one-day cricket over the next five months to prepare for the World Cup, which runs from February 22 – March 29 in Australia and New Zealand.

Then Lehmann will take his men to England to defend the Ashes next summer and the tactician is hoping that his side grows in skill and confidence over the coming months.

“What we need to do is build and build and build to become a better test side, a better one-day side, a better Twenty20 side,” he added.
