WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has stressed that he would like to fight Britain’s David Haye next summer following his February 18 showdown against Dereck Chisora (Klitschko 1/10, Chisora 10/1, draw 28/1 – Bout 3 Way).
The 40-year-old Germany-based fighter has already been in negotiations with Haye’s camp about bringing the Londoner out of retirement for a showdown in the new year.
It looked like the bout would not happen when it was announced that Klitschko would be facing British fighter, Chisora, in Hamburg in February.
However, Klitschko, has confirmed he is looking to dispose of his next opponent (3/10 Klitschko, Vitali – Ko, Tko Or Disqualification – Method of Victory) and then prepare for a clash with Haye, who opted to retire on his 31st birthday in October following his defeat by Klitschko’s brother, Wladimir, in July.
And, in an effort to get a deal agreed, Klitschko is even open to the possibility of facing Haye in his own backyard at London’s Wembley Stadium.
He said: “I want this fight incredibly bad. After Haye’s fight with my brother, I was happy and disappointed at the same time.
“Happy because Wladimir won and we had all of the heavyweight belts in our collection. I was disappointed by the fact Wladimir failed to punish him with a knockout.
“So I’m ready to make the maximum concession in negotiations. Although Haye’s demands are totally inadequate considering his situation.”
He added: “It is possible for us to fight at Wembley. In England the Klitschko brothers have a lot of fans, so my support group at the stadium will be significant.
“I have no doubt that the stands will be filled to the brim.”
