IBF and WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has promised “fireworks” when he takes on Lamont Peterson on Saturday (Boxing coupon – Khan 1/10, draw 33/1, Peterson 11/2).
The Bolton boxer faces home favourite Peterson in Washington as he defends his titles and Khan is confident he will secure victory inside the distance.
“The viewers at home know they are going to get fireworks,” explained Khan, who has a record of 26 (18 KO)-1-0.
“They are going to be on the edge of their sofas and the fans that are going to be here will be on the edge of their seats. It is going to be a great performance from me.”
The 25-year-old has won four of his last five contests inside the distance, with only the hard-hitting and durable Argentine Marcos Maidana managing to last all 12 rounds against Khan (Method of Victory – Khan Ko, Tko Or Disqualification 8/11).
Khan believes he is yet to hit his peak and expects 2012 to be a massive year for him. He is expected to step up to welterweight if he manages to beat Peterson and take on the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr, and the British star insists he is ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
He added: “I’m only young and I think I’ve achieved a lot in my career already at this age but I feel I haven’t hit my peak yet.
“I think within the next couple of years I’ll achieve my dreams and have some of the super-fights that I want.”
