Chelsea right-back Jose Bosingwa will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup finals for Portugal (25/1 to win the tournament) after being told he needs another knee operation.
The 27-year-old hasn’t been seen in a Blues (11/10 to win the FA Cup) shirt since he picked up the problem in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa (4/1) in October and was orginally supposed to be out for three months.
However, despite returning to training in February Bosingwa hasn’t progressed as expected and will have to go under the knife again in order to return to full fitness.
The news will come as yet another blow to Chelsea (6/4 to win the Premier League) manager Carlo Ancelotti who has already lost Ashley Cole for the majority of the season while Petr Cech and Michael Essien are also in the midst of spells on the sidelines.
“Bosingwa will be out for the season and have another operation, so that’s him unfortunately, and he’ll miss the World Cup as well,” said Chelsea assistant Ray Wilkins.
Wilkins went on to give an injury update on the likes of Cole and Cech, claiming that Essien could return to the Blues set up in a couple of weeks.
Bosingwa’s second operation will also rule him out of the World Cup meaning Portugal (5/2 to qualify from Group G) coach Carlos Queiroz will be without his first choice right-back for the tournament.
