Black Caps wait on Vettori

Vettori 8013459 300x192 Black Caps wait on VettoriNew Zealand (15/8 in Betfred’s match prices) skipper Daniel Vettori is hoping to be fit for Saturday’s second ODI against Australia, but will leave the decision on fitness as late as possible.

The Black Caps captain (14/1 to be New Zealand’s top batsman) sat out the first match, which New Zealand won by two wickets, due to a neck injury but has a chance of making the latest match in Auckland.

The spinner revealed: “I’ve had this injury for about 13 years. It flares up and down occasionally. It’s an old whiplash injury and I’m hoping to wake up feeling good in the morning.”

Vettori’s presence may be vital, especially as the home side will be without all-rounder Jacob Oram, who will miss the rest of the Chappell-Hadlee series due to a knee problem.

Both teams have also promised to behave after Australia paceman Mitchell Johnson and Kiwi all-rounder Scott Styris were both fined following an on-field spat in Napier.
