Baines targets World Cup chance

Leighton Baines (9/2 with Betfred to start against the opener v USA) admits it would be “a dream” to be included in England’s World Cup squad, after making his debut in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Egypt at Wembley.

The Everton left-back played the full 90 minutes as Fabio Capello’s men came from behind to maintain their impressive run under the Italian.

With Ashley Cole in a race against time to be fit for the start of this summer’s tournament, Baines looks to be in a battle with Stephen Warnock to fill the void, should the Chelsea man miss out.

Baines said: “The more time I get to spend with the England squad, the better it will be. You can build up relationships then.  Playing 90 minutes has been a big confidence boost and I’ve just got to keep it going.”

The 25-year-old will look to impress once again for his club this weekend, with Everton (7/2 to qualify for Europe this season) entertaining Hull in the Premier League on Saturday.
