Toby Lewis is the 2010 EPT Vilamoura champion after defeating Martin Jacobson heads-up in the €5,000 Main Event. Lewis, known as “810ofclubs” when he is playing online poker, takes home a career best €467,835, not bad for a week’s work in the sun!
Serigio Coutinho was the first player to exit the tournament after his 8h6s was no match for Sam Trickett’s Ah8d. He was followed by the first-ever EPT Champion Rob Hollink, who won €55,872 for his seventh place finish. It took almost two hours until the tournament lost another player, this time Frederik Jensen who lost a race with his AhJd against the pocket fives of Martin Jacobson.
Again, it was another two hours before the next elimination and when it came it was in the shape of former Manchester United and Englan footballer Teddy Sheringham who walked away with a career-best €93,120. He was joined on the rail just 15 minutes later by fellow UK player Sam Trickett, who had a torrid time at the tables losing all seven of his all-in confrontations, including his last with pocket twos against Jacobson’s QhJh.
After nursing a relatively short-stack for much of the tournament Jason lee finally committed his entire stack with Ah5h first-in in the cut off only to be snap called by the aggressive Jacobson who held the dominating AcTd. A ten on the turn sealed the deal for the talented Swede.
Heads-up Jacobson had a 7,075,000 to 4,405,000 chip lead but Lewis gradually chipped up to bring the tie to an even contest. In the final hand all the money went in after a raising war on a baord reading Ac9hTs5s, with Jacobson holding 9d5d for two pair but he was in big trouble against the 5c5h of Lewis. The river was the Tc and Lewis had won every single chip in play.
