I almost got the month of May off to an amazing start last night by going very deep in a multi-table tournament but ultimately I fell just short. This particular tournament had exactly 1,000 entrants in it and I managed to make it all the way to 13th place before busting out and being paid $40 when the win was worth $950.00. What a start that would have been eh?
In total I played five multi-table tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $5 to $11 and I made it to the money in one of them; the tournament I just mentioned. I busted out of one tournament very early when I flatted an opening raise from the cutoff – I was on the button – with king-queen, flopped top pair and proceeded to donate my 60 big blinds to what turned out to be pocket aces!
On a scale of one to ten I would rate my performance at the felt as a six or seven because I made a number of mistakes that cost me deeper runs and potential final table appearances. One hand was my exit hand from my 13th place finish and I am still quite disappointed with my play. In the hand we were seven-handed and the blinds were 3,000/6,000/750a and the action folded to me in the hijack. I raised to 12,000 with 141,100 behind and only the cutoff made the call.
The flop came down Qc-8c-7h and I check-called a 12,000 bet. The turn was the Ad and I checked again. Villain bet just 18,000 into the 62,250 pot so I check-raised to 78,000 only to see villain move all-in. I called off my last 51,000 or so and villain showed AhQh. The river bricked and I busted in 13th.
There was another hand, again a bust out, where I lost with kings to ten-nine but it was so obvious I was well beaten yet I still called off like the big donk that I am. I’ll put it partly down to rustiness but also to the fact I was feeling pretty tired halfway through the mini-session and even Tweeted that I wish I could stop doubling up so ii could go to bed! I’m not feeling 100% right now either so maybe tonight I will just play sit & go tournaments instead.
