Ivey’s $1,000,000 prop bet

They say for a poker player to play at the highest level they need to have a lot of gamble in them. This seems to run true for Phil Ivey and Tom “durrrr” Dwan who recently agreed to a prop bet that will see the winner bank a cool one million dollars!

The bet was agreed on during Sunday’s episode of High Stakes Poker and will see Ivey becoming a vegetarian for a whole year otherwise face paying Dwan a $1,000,000 forfeit! For the purpose of the bet Ivey cannot eat “any creature that moves.” Ivey told viewers of the show, “I was thinking about doing it for a while, so this is an added incentive.”

Ivey is no stranger to making prop bets, in fact he could be the king of prop bets. He often plays golf for $100,000 per hole and when he reached the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Final Table he had a number of pros sweating as he stood to win a reported $10,000,000 from them collectively after taking odds of 99:1 on himself winning!

When Ivey won the $2,500 Deuce-to-Seven Lowball event for $96,367 at the 2009 WSOP he actually pocketed closer to $2,700,000 after taking bets with Eli Elezra amongst others and he stands to win $5,000,000 if he wins another bracelet at the 2010 WSOP.

Whether Ivey can stay away from meat for an entire year remains to be seen but with $1,000,000 at stake I would say he probably can.
