The Main Event of the European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event has been reached after the 24 players who returned to their seats yesterday afternoon were whittled down to just eight. Each of the eight finalists have now guaranteed they will walk away with no less than €67,200 for their efforts over the past week and they all know they are just seven opponents away from picking up €875,000!
Through the day some of European poker’s best known players were sent crashing to the rail, their hopes of becoming an EPT Main Event champion just that, hopes. The sad and dejected face of World Series of Poker Europe Main Event final table member Marc Inizan was one of the first to be sent to the rail and he was followed during the day by the talented Belgian Kevin Vandersmissen, Romanian high stakes cash guru Ignat “0human0” Liviu and online tournament poker’s number one ranked player Britain’s Chris Brammer.
But poker does not remember those who have fallen short, it only remembers winners and whilst the final eight will be thinking there are all winners right not there is only room for one champion. The man in the driving seat when play resumes at 1200CET is the 19-year old Frenchman by the name of Paul Guichard who starts the day armed with 5,955,000 chips, keeping him narrowly in front of Belarus’ Vadim Kursevich.
Kursevich has been in this situation before having reach the final table of EPT Berlin where he eventually finished third. Other players with EPT Final table experience are Luca Pagano who has made seven EPT final table but never actually won one and Yorane Kerignard who has two final appearances to his name.
It should be a thrilling finale to the tournament because literally anyone could win. There is a great mixture of establish professional players, up-and-coming youngsters and complete poker amateurs. Who will win? Tune in tomorrow to fins that out!
