The money bubble is rapidly approaching in the European Poker Tour Main Event with just 178 players remaining and 128 of those making it to the money. One man who looks almost guaranteed to make it through to the cash is British pro Martins Adeniya.
Adeniya started the day amongst the chip leaders with 115,200 chips and by the time eight 60-minute levels had been completed yesterday he had increased his stack to a field-leading 512,000. Adeniya may not be household name like some but to those who know in the industry inside out he is one of the most talented poker players in the world.
Primarily a cash game specialist and one who play very high stakes in the live arena, Adeniya is cool and composed at all time but also relentless in applying his trademark aggression and now that the money is approaching and he is the man to catch he will be even more dangerous.
The man in second place when play resumes at 1200CET is the unknown Brahim Oubella who bagged up 452,000 chips at the end of play and hot on his heels are the Russian Artem Litinov and the French pro Ludovic Lacey who ended the day with 397,100 and 377,300 chips respectively.
Lacay is a regular on the European poker circuit and is a dangerous opponent when he has plenty of chips at his disposal so will certainly be one to watch when play restarts. Lacay’s best result, in terms of money earned, came in 2009 when he finished 16th in the World Series of Poker Main Event for a cool $500,557. If he goes all the way in France he will take home much more than that as the first place prize is an eye-popping €875,000.
Other notables still in the field include British pro Chris Brammer, Marc Inizan, James Dempsey, Kevin Vandersmissen, Luca Pagano, Ilan Boujenah, Shannon Shorr and Govert Metaal.
Play resumes at 1200CET and is expected to continue until around 64 players remain. If they get down to this many players each will have locked up at least €13,000 for the efforts and that massive first place prize will be one step closer to them.
