It’s the first time Man City have been the Christmas Number 1 since 1929, and before anyone thinks it, I was not around then!
However, I have been around long enough to know the Premier League is now definitely a two-horse race and the title is definitely staying in Manchester.
But of course at the moment it looks like the title could well move across the City and the Blues are worthy favourites at 4/7. Last Sunday’s result against Arsenal was highly significant for me when you consider United had regained top spot at lunchtime, and the pressure was on the Blues.
Fellow Man United fans might fancy some of the 2/1 available to win the title, because traditionally the Reds do kick on after Christmas. It’s going to be close and I can see our two clubs pulling further away from the chasing pack.
For very excited City fans I am offering 80/1 that the Blues win all four trophies.
However there’s still plenty of football before any trophies are handed out and both Manchester clubs are in action on Boxing Day. Man City travel to West Brom and they are 4/9 to win in the West Midlands.
Sergio Aguero has really impressed this campaign and he’s already cost me plenty of dough. The Argentine hitman has already scored 13 goals in the Premier League and he’s 7/2 to open the scoring on Boxing Day. I can the Blues winning 3-1 which is 10/1.
Man United’s festive campaign starts with relegation threatened Wigan visiting Old Trafford. Roberto Martinez’s men will be boosted by recent draws against Chelsea and Liverpool but there will be no seasonal goodwill from United. I can see another demolition like midweek when they rolled over Fulham.
I’ll be backing Man United to win 4-0 at 17/2 and I can’t look beyond Wayne Rooney at 5/2 to score the first goal. Wayne looks to have rediscovered his scoring boots.
Finally I would like to wish all the readers a Merry Christmas and the best of luck punting in 2012.
