What a shame that the BBC Sports Personality is live from MediaCity in Salford and there is only one representative from Greater Manchester.
Amir Khan is our only nominee and I’m afraid he’s a massive 250/1 to win this accolade.
Mark Cavendish is already pulling away from the pack and is as short as 1/3 to win the award. The Manx Missile has had an incredible year becoming the first Brit to win the green jersey at the Tour De France, and he won the World Road Race. The only other British cyclist to win the road world title, Tommy Simpson, won Sports Personality the same year – 1965.
Odds on favourites have been turned over before but it’s hard to see where the challenge will come from this year. Darren Clarke is the second favourite at 6/1 but the golf vote could get split with Rory McIlroy at 14/1 and World number 1 Luke Donald at 20/1. Mo Farah is also 14/1 but unlikely to win in a non Olympic year.
