Go with United and City

It’s been a great week for both Manchester teams and I’m confident it can end on a high, as both United and City ought to cruise through their matches tomorrow.

Cash-strapped Portsmouth cut no ice at Eastlands last Sunday and it should be the same story when they visit Old Trafford. Pompey look doomed to relegation and are 16/1 to win tomorrow.

The way United played at Arsenal last weekend means I don’t expect many punters to back Avram Grant’s side even at those fancy odds.

I get the feeling this could be a turning point in the title race as the reds look to be doing their usual post-Christmas thing of putting together a strong run of results.

The result and performance against Arsenal must have worried Chelsea into slipping up at Hull. Mind you, they also have the John Terry hoo-ha to contend with. Hardly great timing for them when that news broke!

I’ve cut United’s odds by more than half this week to make it four titles in a row. They were 3/1 after Chelsea won at Burnley last Saturday evening and are now just 11/8, with the Cockneys out to 5/6.

On paper, City also look to have a straightforward task tomorrow away to Hull who, like Portsmouth, are in the relegation zone. The Tigers have not won in their last 11 games and conceded 23 goals in that sequence.

But on Tuesday they held the odds-on title favourites to a 1-1 draw and by all accounts did so fairly comfortably, so it may not be easy for City even though they are 8/11 to come away with three points.

For those who expect the two games will go to form, I’m offering a special enhanced double price of Evens. You can also back the two Manchester sides to both win by two or more goals at 10/3.

United have triumphed by a two-goal margin or better in their last three league matches and much of that has been down to the sensational scoring form of Wayne Rooney, who has netted six times in those games.

Rooney’s brilliant run means he now looks certain to win the Golden Boot this season and he is just 4/11 to finish as top Premier League goalscorer. On 20 goals, he is five clear of Jermain Defoe at the top of the list.

Each-way betting is still available on that market and City fans may still fancy the chances of Carlos Tevez finishing in the top two at his current odds of 20/1.
