Steve Harmison feels England (4/1 in Betfred’s Test series betting) have a chance of Test success in South Africa despite his absence from the touring squad.
The Durham paceman was omitted from the 16-man travelling party, having been part of the England team in the final two tests of the successful Ashes series.
Many pundits have questioned if Andrew Strauss’ young squad have the belief to beat the top-ranked Test nation on their home soil – South Africa are available to back at 1/2 to win the series.
But Harmison, who refuses to rule out a return to the international fray, feels the wickets in South Africa could favour England.
The 31-year-old said: “England are going through an exciting time with a group of young fast bowlers in South Africa. The pitches will be helpful for them and I really want them to do well.”
England’s tour of South Africa starts with a Twenty20 clash on November 13, with the first Test taking place in Centurion December 16.
