New South Wales Blues have booked their place in the Champions League Twenty20 final after a comfortable 79-run victory over Victoria.
The Blues (4/7 to win the tournament outright) were given a great start thanks to David Warner (48) and Phil Hughes (35) after electing to bat, setting the Bushrangers a target of 170 to win.
However, Victoria’s run chase was stopped in its tracks by off-spinner Nathan Hauritz after he took two wickets in his first over while Brett Lee finished with figures of 2-15 from his four overs.
Victoria eventually finished on 90 for nine and New South Wales will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Trinidad & Tobago (3/1 to be the tournaments outright winners) and Cape Cobras (11/10 in the match prices to beat the side from the Caribbean).
Blues skipper Simon Katich praised his bowlers after the game, citing them as the reason the Aussie side has done so well in tournament thus far.
“Our bowlers have been fantastic right through the tournament and they are a big reason for our progress so far,” said Katich.
“It was a great team effort all around. Warner and Hughes set the tone early with the bat and the rest of the guys chipped in nicely.
